Finally...my sisterlocks will start!

After months of sisterlock blog stalking, although I'm sure I'll continue, I will be getting my sisterlocks on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009! I'm nervous, excited, apprehensive, determined and too many other adjectives. One thing is for sure, my locks will look like my hair and texture and no one elses, I'm clear on that, although if I had my say, I have a preference. The real truth of the matter is I don't like thick locks or the real matted looking locks, I know, I know that's crazy because matting is what essentially what locks are but I just like them to be groomed and neat. I've had my hair micro braided for about two years, it all started when the heat and humidity just was too much and I was weary of all the bad hair days and everything that's involved when you have a perm. My hair is kinda fine and not too thick, not to mention my head is where I sweat the most...so now you see the problem. I got addicted to braids because they were easy and they suited me, that was until they started thinning my already fine/thin hair on the right side of my hair line. So I decided to get a weave, but not in the front...WRONG, that felt like I was wearing a tight hat not to mention the itching, cause I have a dandruff problem but only when I have artificial hair on top of my own natural hair.

Anyway to make a long story short, my pastor's wife has sisterlocks and they look wonderful! It took be a while to figure out what it was, could they braid hair that tiny, nevertheless I discovered that they were lil mini locks. One of my choir members had the same type of locks, come to find out she is a certified sister locitian! Well after I showed an interest in sisterlocks, she's been after me to get them, but I've been resistant, I said that they were too permanant for me. I guess I had an epihany when I remembered that I don't like to comb my hair even when it was permed and I really like the look of braids on me so what was my problem?

The other problem is patience isn't one of my strong suits so I just didn't want to start too short, but I've learned from sisterlock blog stalking that patience is key in this journey....so I will embrace this journey. Besides, all of the time and money I've spent in salon chairs and kitchen chairs perming, braiding, pressing, burning and curling my hair are over, well not really as I will be sitting in a chair for installation and tightening of my sisterlocks but it is for a greater purpose in my quest for natural hair. However, with all that waiting, I'm now being charged extra because my hair is longer than what she normally starts with, I guess my hair is about 6 - 8 inches, doesn't seem that long to me, especially in its natural state.
